The MINI-POLE printed circuit board package noted as ‘PC’ is a 42-pin through-hole RF package. The mechanical dimensions and pin outs are as shown below.
Some suggested PCB guidelines to follow are:
PAD SIZES: Particular attention must be given to the pad sizes on the PCB. The PC package has a nominal axial lead diameter of 0.020” and a glass lead insulator surrounding the pin of only 0.056” diameter. Therefore, it is recommended that the component side pad have a diameter of 0.035” with a 0.025” diameter finished hole size. The solder side pad should have a diameter of 0.075”. As an additional insulation precaution, we suggest in some applications placing a strip of Kapton Tape or a thin Teflon spacer between surfaces.
SOLDER MASK: A void of solder mask in the shape of a rounded rectangular ring will allow for additional enhanced grounding if needed. The shape should follow the outside dimensions of the package.
GROUNDING: Since this is an RF filter, grounding and good RF layout techniques should be carefully considered. Connect all ground pins, and use copper fill whenever possible.
It is recommended that digital control lines feeding the filter be physically separated from RF paths and bypassed when possible.
